In the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muscat, Oman, January 2016
Håkan Groth
I was born near Luleå in northern Sweden and lived in Stockholm before moving to London and have now been an antique dealer there for many years. My business partner Rupert Cavendish and I specialise in neoclassical furniture, especially in the Empire, Biedermeier and Art Deco styles – visit our website www.rupertcavendish.co.uk
In 1990, Thames and Hudson in London published my book, Neoclassicism in the North – Swedish Furniture and Interiors 1770-1850, with photography by Fritz von der Schulenburg. It was also published by Rizzoli, New York, and in French as Châteaux en Suède – Interieur et Mobilier Neo-Classiques 1770-1850 by Thames & Hudson, Paris. The following year, the Swedish edition, Nyklassicismen i Sverige, was published by Norstedts, Stockholm.
My second book, Barock och Rokoko i Sverige 1650-1770 (in Swedish only), which I photographed and wrote with Lars Strömblad, was published in 2005 by Prisma, Stockholm.
I have written articles about antiques and houses for various publications and magazines, such as House & Garden, over the years.
I have been working on a book on the Swedish royal summer palaces, but this is still a work in progress and I hope to finish it in the next year.
I regularly publish photos on my Instagram page about architecture, interiors and antiques that interest me. My great joy is visiting palaces and country houses and taking photographs. This blog is an extension of my Instagram account @hakan_groth and my aim here is to write more about the photos that I feature there. Enjoy!
